On Thursday, Germany and France have reserved the first two quarter-final spots in the women's World Cup fro Group A while kicking out Nigeria and Canada.
France has secured first place among the eight finalists and ran over the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football champions Canada 4-0 in Bochum whereas Germany spluttered to a 1-0 win over Nigeria in Frankfurt.
“It’s among the two matches which count the most in the history of French women’s football, after qualification for the 2003 World Cup”, said France coach ,Bruno Bini. “But we haven’t obtained our goal yet. We’re savouring this one. It’s well deserved; the girls took the match by the scruff of the neck. A World Cup quarter-final that warms the heart”.
The Nigeria is likely to face a pressure in a match with Canada to save its pride after two consecutive defeats and is directed to return home after its final match against Canada in Dresden. Additionally, on Friday, the competition continued with the second round of Group B games with presence of leaders Japan, Mexico, England and New Zealand.
Canadian player, Kara Lang, who credits to score 34 goals in 91 appearances, has announced her retirement because of knee problems and serving as a soccer commentator for Rogers Sportsnet, presently.
